Are there any requirements for packing lists when shipping cartons?

Packing lists must include the purchase order number, Wegmans item number, total number of cases shipped by item, case pack quantity, inner pack carton quantity (if applicable), and an accurate product description. The packing list must be attached to the Bill of Lading.

Can purchase orders be mixed within a single carton?

Purchase orders should not be mixed within a single carton. Each full truck load should have only one purchase order, and PO's over one truckload should have additional item level detail and quantities to create new PO's for each additional truck.

Pallets with multiple items should be marked as "Mixed Pallet" to ensure proper segregation at a Wegmans DC and must have each item with its own SSCC Pallet Label.

Can SKUs be mixed on a single pallet?

Yes, SKUs can be mixed on a single pallet. The requirements are: the mixed pallet should be marked as "Mixed Pallet" to ensure proper segregation at a Wegmans DC. Items on a mixed pallet should be separated by a pallet to facilitate efficient depalletizing, and each item should have its own SSCC Pallet Label.

Can SKUs be mixed within a single carton?

Wegmans cannot accept shipper or assortment packs, which implies SKUs cannot be mixed within a single carton for shipments.

What are the allowed pallet types for shipping?

Wegmans requires 4-way pallets wherever possible. New or like-new pallets from pooled pallet programs like PECO, CHEP, and iGPS are acceptable. If these are unavailable, Wegmans accepts whitewood pallets that meet specific criteria. Corrugated and single-use plastic pallets are not accepted without prior written approval.

What are the max and min dimensions for shipping cartons?

Preferred dimensions for shipping cartons are a length of 20 inches or less, a width of 14 inches or less, and a height of 6 inches or less. Cartons should not exceed 30 inches in length, 20 inches in width, and 18 inches in height.

What are the max and min weights for shipping cartons?

The preferable maximum weight for shipping cartons is 35 pounds. Cases greater than 50 pounds should be avoided.

What are the requirements for Bills of Lading when it comes to pallet (freight) or carton (parcel) shipments?

For Collect shipments, all Bills of Lading must be marked with the carrier: 3rd Party Bill To C H Robinson LTL. Shippers who fail to follow the Wegmans Collect Shipment guidelines will be billed back all applicable freight and accessorial charges, including sorting/segregating charges. What are the requirements for carton or pallet labels and their placement?

Carton labels should have UCC 128 labels with required information and not cover photos, UPCs, or other descriptors. If not UCC 128 capable, add a label with the same information but exclude barcode. For pallets, use SSCC pallet labels visible on the front and side, at the top third of the pallet. Mixed pallets should be marked and separated appropriately, with each item having its own SSCC label.

What are the requirements for inner packs and cases?

Inner packs must include Wegmans item number, item description, and number of retail units in the inner carton. Cases should have suitable hand holes if they weigh more than 20 pounds, and must be clearly labeled with the standard UCC 128 label or equivalent information if supplier is not UCC 128 capable.

What are the requirements for placing labels on cartons being shipped?

The requirements for placing labels on cartons being shipped include:
- Use Standard UCC 128 labels on all shipping cartons with the required information. If not UCC 128 capable, a label with the same required information (excluding barcode) should be added.
- Labels should not cover photos, UPCs, or other descriptors already printed on the carton.
- If the carton already has a label, place the Wegmans shipping label on the back side or side of the carton.
- For items like mods, pallet displays, or shippers, labels should be placed outside, including the total retail units enclosed.
- If there is a shippable inner pack, labels should be added with required information.
- Information on shipping cases should include Wegmans Warehouse # and Address, PO Number, Item Number, Item Description, Shipping Case Pack, and Inner Carton Pack.
- Information on inner packs should include Item Number, Item Description, and Inner Carton Pack.
